YOUNG EARTH?

YOUNG EARTH?
Or,
How the Biblical Young Earth Theory Proves Itself Wrong

Let’s get this out right at front. I believe in God, an afterlife, and even that Christ was the son of God (which begs the question, “If God created all life, are we not all the sons and daughters of God?” But, that is a topic for another post.)

Recently, I stumbled upon a post discussing “Young Earth” and dinosaurs.

I’ll catch you up. The “Young Earth” theory states that the earth is only about 6,000 years old. It arrives at this date by taking the bible literally. That is, everything stated in the bible is true, because it is the word of God. Thus, it took on six 24 hour days to create the universe, since that is what the book of Genesis states.

But then you have the dinosaur problem. After all, why are there no mentions of dinosaurs in the Bible if that book was written during their existence? A bit of research led me to the Young Earth Dinosaur theory.

In short, the theory states that God created all life on the same day, including dinosaurs. Humans and dinosaurs lived together until Noah and the flood. Then, all the dinosaurs died in the flood, and their remains were stratified in the sediment left by the flood.

While clever, this idea shows that the Bible is not literal truth.

Let us start here. According to Genesis 1:20 to 1:31 God created every living creature, including dinosaurs. And so, as the “young earthers” would have it, humans and dinosaurs lived together, until the flood.

Now, let us look at what the Bible states about the flood:

God decides to wipe out all life on earth, because it was wicked. Genesis 6:5 to 6:7. But, Noah convinces God that not everything was evil, so God tells Noah to build the Ark, with the instruction that Noah shall:

“Take with you seven pairs of every kind of clean animal, a male and its mate, and one pair of every kind of unclean animal, a male and its mate, and also seven pairs of every kind of bird, male and female, to keep their various kinds alive throughout the earth.”

Genesis 7:2 to Genesis 7:3.

Thereafter, “. . . Noah did according unto all that the Lord commanded him.” Genesis 7:5.

Noah builds his boat, packs it with his family, and at least two of every animal, including dinosaurs. The all survive the flood and “reboot” the Earth.

But wait a minute. . .

We have no record of any dinosaurs living in the post flood era. If the flood stratified dinosaur fossils, then dinosaurs did not survive the flood. If dinosaurs did not survive the flood, then Noah did not follow God’s instructions and take at least two of every animal onto the ark.

So, Genesis is wrong that “. . . Noah did according unto all that the Lord commanded of him” or it is wrong that God commanded Noah to take at least two of every animal onto the ark. Either way, the Bible is wrong somewhere and therefore cannot be literal truth.
